I was hungry. I was in a hurry. Ordered Starbucks Mocha Frappucino. Saw the Grilled Tuna Wrap. Compared it to the sausage sandwich. Decided on the bigger wrap. Asked the barista to re-heat the tuna wrap. Took a bite.  Surprisingly good…

It has a hint of (very mild) curry that oddly goes very well with what seemed to be the tomato sauce/salsa used.  Strangely delicious. Either it’s really good or I was too hungry to make an unbiased “review”. Will try this again under normal conditions.

I am a huge fan of sundried tomatoes and pesto so it’s not really surprising why I have fallen in love with Filippo Berio Sun Dried Tomato Pesto (bottle on the left). They also have the traditional green pesto version for those who like a  stronger pesto taste. The sundried pesto combo is just the perfect pasta sauce when you can’t be bothered making one from scratch. Just boil the pasta till they get to the al dente stage. Add 2 tablespoons (or more) of the sundried pesto sauce and it’s done. It’s restaurant-quality, or even better. One small bottle costs less than $4.

While it’s very good on any kind of pasta, it turns out, it’s also great on tuna. You have the option to use the fresh from the market or fresh from the can. The latter being a staple in Mafia and Homie’s cupboard — they are canned goods foodies! lol

It’s tough finding tuna at 4 in the afternoon so I went for the Century Tuna’s premium solid tuna in water. While the tuna is being drained, I sauted garlic and onion in butter. I added a teaspoon of the sundried tomato pesto and let it simmer for a few seconds. I added the drained tuna and stirred ever so carefully so as to retain the pseudo hand-carved look of the solid tuna. Baste the tuna with the buttery sauce until it gets a slight brown color on the sides. When it’s done, transfer to a plate and add a teaspoon of the sundried tomato pesto on top. Serve with rice or bread.

Not good.

A study published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association suggests that farm-raised Tilapia can actually be bad for our health because they contain omega-6 fatty acids which is the BAD fatty acid. We should be having omega-3 fatty acid. The fish in the market don’t have omega-3 and omega-6 labels so just shopping for a fish is already dangerous in itself. And if you had been eating Tilapia for the longest time (like me), then that means you have had a crazy amount of omega-6 deposited in your body. So, you already have lost a couple of years in your life span…all because this important information was withheld from you (and me).

So, the American Heart Association should revise their call to eat fish twice a week and make it…”Eat non-tilapia fish twice a week”. This should make them immune to lawsuits.

Tilapia is relatively cheaper hence it is our choice of fish if we feel like eating one. In light of this disturbing discovery, the family would have to switch to tuna or salmon. Boring but it will make us live longer.
